BoardPromise methodology

BoardPromise calculates every result with fixed, published rules. No AI is used for any calculation, there is no combined score, and unrated skills stay unrated.

Rule version bb-0.1. Last updated .

Who is active in a quarter

A member is active in a quarter if the quarter ends on or before their term end date, or if their renewal is confirmed or assumed.

Assumed renewals are labeled wherever they change a result. A cell that would drop without them is marked assumed dependent.

Onboarding quarter

A proposed candidate or hypothetical role is present from its start quarter, takes a board seat from that quarter, and counts toward coverage from the following quarter.

Advisory council and committee members count toward coverage but never toward board seats.

Coverage

Counted members are active members rated 2 or higher on the need's capability. Leads are counted members rated 3.

Covered: at least the required number of counted members (default 2) and at least the required number of leads (default 1). Thin: at least one counted member, but not covered. Gap: no counted members and every active member is rated. Not assessed: no counted members and at least one active member is unrated.

An unrated capability stays unrated. It is never treated as 0.

Conditional results

In the proposed view, a cell is conditional when it is better than the current board only because of candidate or hypothetical profiles. Proposed profiles never count as confirmed.

Seats

Seats are the active board seat members in each quarter. A quarter below the bylaws minimum is flagged.

Succession

Each officer whose term ends in the horizon without renewal leaves the role open from the next quarter, until a member marked as ready for that role is counted.

Give/get

A member is on track when recorded receipts meet their approved commitment for the period to date. Candidate and hypothetical Treasure never enters confirmed giving.

Readiness

BoardPromise shows five separate readiness labels and never a combined score. Each is ready, conditional, constrained, or not assessed, with a one-line reason.

Coverage is constrained if any high priority need is a gap or not assessed in any quarter, and conditional if any need is thin or conditional. Succession is constrained if any officer role is open, and conditional if a role is filled only by a candidate or hypothetical. Board size is constrained if seats fall below the minimum in any quarter, and conditional if the minimum is met only with proposed seats. Give/get is conditional unless every active member is on track. Evidence is conditional if any rating is unrated or any member is not calibrated by the chair.

Determinism

The same inputs and rule version always produce the same output. No AI is used for any calculation. When a plan is approved, a fingerprint of the exact inputs and the rule version is recorded with the decision.
